India stands as a Sovereign Nation

India stands as a Sovereign Nation:

India stands as a Sovereign Nation: The citizens of India formally established their nation as a Sovereign Democratic Republic on January 26, 1950. The Constitution of India became effective on this significant date. Notably, the Constitution was formulated exclusively by democratically elected Indian representatives serving within the Constituent Assembly. This was accomplished neither in the name of God nor in the name of any Monarch or Ruler.

Sovereignty rests with the Citizens

In reality, as evidenced by the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, the citizens of India exercise national sovereignty.

Preamble

WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST* SECULAR* DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizens:

JUSTICE, social, economic and political;

LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;

EQUALITY of status and of opportunity;

and to promote among them all

FRATERNITY assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity and integrity of the Nation;

IN OUR CONSTITUENT ASSEMBLY this twenty-sixth day of November, 1949, do HEREBY ADOPT, ENACT AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION.

(Words SOCIALIST* and SECULAR* were added in 1975 into the Preamble.)

Preamble of the Constitutuion of India

During the period of 1929-1930, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru formulated a resolution that articulated the Congress’s fundamental objectives, which encompassed the following principles: religious freedom, the right to establish associations, liberty of thought and expression, legal equality for all individuals irrespective of caste, colour, creed, or religious affiliation, preservation of regional languages and cultural heritage, protection of peasant and labour interests, elimination of untouchability, implementation of universal adult suffrage, enforcement of prohibition measures, industrial nationalization, socialist principles, and the establishment of a secular Indian state.

Moreover, the Congress party endorsed all of Nehru’s objectives concerning “Fundamental Rights and Economic Policy” and adopted a resolution during the AICC session held at Karachi in 1931 which was chaired by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Dependency aggravated after 1984

Prior to 1984, Nehru and his contemporaries undertook comprehensive initiatives to establish India as an autonomous and economically self-reliant nation. However, the current situation has become fundamentally disordered. Throughout the preceding quarter-century, India has operated without clear strategic direction, resembling a vessel without navigational guidance. In my assessment, the vast majority of goods currently consumed are of foreign origin, with the notable exceptions of textiles and aluminum products.

Culinary oils, staple grains, refined sugar, paper products, miniature computational devices, timber for furnishings, agricultural nutrients, and comparable commodities—alongside computers, aircraft, industrial equipment, mobile telecommunications devices, motorcycles, automobiles, and analogous technologies—demonstrate India’s comprehensive reliance upon international sources for virtually all essential goods and manufactured products.

India has experienced setbacks across multiple sectors and domains. The Indian establishment and populace, in particular, appear to demonstrate insufficient commitment to national interests and collective identity. Indian society exhibits concerning indicators of cultural erosion and social degeneration.

Glorious past of India

Chola Lake

India stands as a remarkable nation with a distinguished historical legacy spanning multiple domains. The Tamil-Telugu Dynasty, which exercised dominion over South India approximately one thousand years ago, bestowed its nomenclature upon the extensive maritime expanse extending from India’s eastern littoral to the terminus of the South China Sea, designating it as Chola Lake. This historical precedent established India as the etymological source for the Indian Ocean’s designation. The distinction of having an ocean named in honor of a nation remains unparalleled among all sovereign states.

Pliny

Approximately two thousand years ago, the Roman navigator Pliny expressed concern regarding the substantial outflow of gold from Rome to India, necessitated by the importation of Indian merchandise, including textiles and precious gemstones.

Indian trade in the past, letter written by this author to Indian Express in 1993.

Peter the Great

Peter the Great (1672–1725) of Russia asserted that, “The commerce of India constitutes the commerce of Europe, and whoever commands Indian commerce commands Europe.” Historically, Indian commerce held preeminence in global trade due to merchandise manufactured throughout India. Western maritime explorers embarking on voyages toward India mistakenly designated Cambodia and Vietnam as Indo-China, operating under the erroneous belief that they had arrived in India.

West Indies

Furthermore, maritime navigators designated the Central American Islands as the West Indies, and indigenous American populations were termed Red Indians, as these explorers believed they had successfully arrived at the western coast of India and presumed the inhabitants they encountered were potentially indigenous peoples of Indian descent with reddish complexions.

Indus Valley cotton cloth

Approximately five millennia ago, the Indus Valley civilization engaged in substantial exportation of cotton textiles originating from India. There exists a reasonable possibility that Indian populations were among the earliest societies to develop the techniques of cotton thread spinning and textile manufacturing.

Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi

Throughout their respective tenures, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi demonstrated considerable commitment to advancing India beyond its state of underdevelopment. Beyond the establishment of heavy industrial sectors to support infrastructural expansion, Jawaharlal Nehru implemented hydroelectric power and irrigation infrastructure. Through the initiation of autonomous defense programs, Indira Gandhi fostered national pride and confidence. Following their administrations, with the exception of P. V. Narasimha Rao’s limited period in office, India experienced a decline in its standing both within the nation and internationally.

The current state of affairs has become entirely chaotic and disorganized.

Political fiasco:

Following the tenure of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, India’s international political position experienced a notable deterioration. The principle of popular sovereignty within the Indian Republic has been rendered ineffectual. India has emerged as a nation lacking clear political direction and purpose. For Indian expatriates, the nation offers diminished security assurances and reduced grounds for national pride. Consequently, Indians residing in the United States frequently identify themselves as South Asians rather than as Indians.

Al Beruni

Approximately one thousand years prior, Al Beruni expressed dismay regarding the conviction held by educated Indians that they possessed comprehensive understanding of terrestrial matters and refrained from disseminating their knowledge to external parties. If educated Indians maintained their information in strict confidence, what mechanism could facilitate such knowledge transfer? Two plausible explanations exist for why scholarly Indians communicated their knowledge with others: the first involves some form of incentive or motivation; the second pertains to circumstances that posed a danger to their survival.

Vincent Arthur Smith

When Adam Smith proclaimed in his Oxford History of India that Hindu puranas lack historical significance, Indian babus responded affirmatively, exclaiming, “Yes, yes.”

Purgiter

In accordance with Purgiter’s contention that the Hindu Puranas contain substantial historical references, our Babus offered their endorsement and proceeded to elucidate the historical importance of the occurrences documented within the Puranic texts.

Social Degeneration:

Swami Vivekananda expressed profound concern regarding India’s lag in scientific progress relative to America during the preceding century.
