Democracy in India

Democratic principles are currently sidelined in India due to clear reasons. Democracy hijacked by Political Parties: Political parties and their leaders have been governing the Nation in an Authoritarian way. Individuals holding positions in the Government of India, ranging from the President to the Prime Minister, along with State Chief Ministers, have turned into puppets under the control of political party leaders. (I believe the Anti-Defection Law is the primary reason for this unfortunate situation in Indian Democracy.) In reality, it rendered the Speakers of both Parliament and State Assemblies subordinate to the leaders of political parties.

Nehru vs Kripalani

During the early years of the 1950s of our Republic, a conflict emerged between the Congress Party President and Prime Minister Nehru, who firmly declared that the Prime Minister would govern the nation and that the Party president should not interfere in the affairs of Parliament and the Government of India.

He stated that we have embraced the Westminster democratic system where the Cabinet of Ministers is accountable to Parliament and the President of India, thus the President of the Congress party plays no part in governing the Country. Frustrated by this, Acharya Kripalani, who was the Congress president at the time, stepped down. Currently, Mr. Manmohan, the sitting Prime Minister, claims that he keeps his party president, Mrs. Sonia, informed about everything. Is he our Prime Minister who must have sworn an oath of office and confidentiality.

According to his oath, he must not reveal any information to outsiders that could jeopardize the security of the Nation. It should be emphasized that Mrs. Sonia, since she is not part of the Government, did not swear such an oath and is not expected to be aware of National secrets.

UPA chairman

Mrs. Sonia’sposition as UPA chairman is unconstitutional and is diminishing the prestige of India’s top political roles, such as the President and Prime Minister, whilejeopardizing the nation’s security.

If Sonia makesalldecisionsfor the Government of India, then what is the purpose of the PM and President offices

Governors serve as the connection between the Center and the States overall. However, this body of Governors was also weakened. In each State, one individual is appointed to act as a liaison between the States and the Center. What is the need for Governors in States?

At the constituency level, even if a current MLA is from the opposition party, the ruling party often designates the defeated MLA candidate as the Constituency in-charge individual, effectively overshadowing the sitting MLA. So, what is the need for electing someone as an MLA? Thus, Parliamentary Democracy is effectively supplanted by an unwritten partycracy, which can be referred to as such
